Tuesday, Oct. 18th 6:30pm Regal Dole Cannery
Osamu Tezuka is an anime legend, and his award-winning, eight-volume manga of the life of Buddha has long been a dream project for filmmakers in Japan. Tezuka’s manga wasn’t just concerned with the Buddha but with the web of characters who crossed paths with him over the years, telling the story of all India instead of the life of one holy man. Now, almost four decades after it was written, it arrives as a powerful animated movie.

SPECIAL LETTER TO ALL AFTER THE DISASTER IN JAPAN
Even though many of us are putting efforts into benefits and donation projects for the victims of the Japan Quake and Tsunami, please don't forget the companies that we have been buying things from like J-list, Hobby Japan, Manga University, and all the Anime and Manga studios in Japan. We should continue to support them, as doing so not only keeps our love for anime and manga alive, but stimulates the Japanese economy in this dire time. Many of the companies, like Glenn Kardy of Manga University and Peter Payne of J-list are donating part of their sales to those in need in northern Japan. Lets help keep the industry alive, as by not doing so, will hurt us all in the long run.

March 13th, 2011: Our prayers are out for those in Japan...
The earthquake in Japan has devastated the entire region on Miyagi, and impacted the rest of the Sendai area. The Red Cross is accepting donations for disaster relief. There are many people who were lost in this disaster, and even more who have to deal with surviving this tragedy.

Mission Statement
We of the Oahu Anime Explorer believe that the desire to learn is paramount when attempting to learn about Japanese language and culture. By promoting an interest in Anime and Manga we believe that we will also create the desire to learn more about Japan and its people. We believe that by seeking out and presenting the latest Anime and by showing it both in its original language as well as with the most accurate translations we can increase interest in and understanding of the Japanese and their culture. We also hope to improve the understanding of the Japanese language through exposure to it. We of the OAE also believe that by seeking other activities such as travel, participation in cultural events and exposure to other media such as live-action programs we can further gain understanding and appreciation of the Japanese culture. We of the OAE wish to increase contact and interchange between all fans of Anime and Manga. To this end we wish to act as liaison between Anime and Japanese clubs of all kinds throughout the islands.

OAE History
Before there was the OAE, there was the Japanese Animation Society of Hawaii. From 1985 to 2005, JASH was the longest running anime club west of the Rockies. However, in 2005, JASH president Milton Streeter saw the landscape of anime and manga changing, so he felt that a changing of the guard was in order. Milton then asked club member Kell Komatsubara, of his plans to fold the club and if he would create an all new club. Kell then asked members Pam and the late Bob Verrey, and Eric Kihara, along with friend Zac Tom if they would help him create an all new anime club. So, in July of 2005, with the help of HMC academy owner Kevin Yoshida the Oahu Anime Explorer held it's first meeting. The rest as you can say, is history...

Our sponsors!

Remember, when the U.S. releases are out please buy them from our faithful sponsors of the club! Without the sales of U.S. releases, we would lose backing to events we all love, like all of the anime conventions across the U.S. that we go to. We are here to just show you what is out there and will be coming to the U.S. and please support the U.S. industry for your collections. On our current list of sponsors to support, the following are the stores and companies that have supported us in our many events and outings...

Anime in the Limelight...

They are back! Max and the Anime in the Limelight are back on the internet radio waves! Since 1997, former J.A.S.H. members and Hawaii residents now residing in Las Vegas  were putting on this radio show for all anime  otakus in Hawaii. Recently, these guys pulled up stakes and moved to Sin City. Now, in 2008 they restarted the show and here it is! I've know Max for the longest time, and when he's back in Hawaii we always have a great time with the gang here. Hopefully, you will enjoy this internet radio show as much as we do!
