We have once again reserved room 2, and we are looking at either Yoshiya's or Gyukaku for dinner. We will be talking about this at this weekends meeting.

April 13th, 2009: MAN WE BEEN SLACKING AGAIN!
Sorry everyone! The webmaster been out of town for the past two weeks, and wont be back until next week. We will NOT be having a meeting this month due to there was already Kawaii Kon, and absence of some members. However, we will be having two events in May. May 2nd, we will be doing dinner and Karaoke in Waikiki, memorializing the late J-Rock god Hideto "hide" Matsumoto, and just to make up for not having a meeting in April. We will be announcing the date for the next meeting shortly, but tentatively it will be May 16th. Also, last chance for anyone wanting to go to Anime Expo. You've already missed the early entry fee, but by the end of this month we will be doing final booking of plane and hotels. Email for more information! Until next update, JYA!

Have fun cosplaying at this years Kawaii Kon! Don't forget to visit Jon J. Murakami in Artist Alley and MechaHawaii in the dealers room(Sean has some neat surprises to debut there!). We are still debating on having a meeting this month due to the convention and several members being away on trips, but we will be posting a special event for the beginning of May.

March 24th, 2009: Not too soon to be planning Halloween!
Yes, it may seem like a far way off, but we look forward to this so much we start planning right after Halloween! We will be making some changes to better suit the masses, and also to allow more people to have fun on that night. We will be posting info for it sometime in the following months, but we are set for Gyukaku and GS again! Start thinking of your cosplay. We may be doing an inhouse costume contest, with some interesting prizes!

Mission Statement
We of the Oahu Anime Explorer believe that the desire to learn is paramount when attempting to learn about Japanese language and culture. By promoting an interest in Anime and Manga we believe that we will also create the desire to learn more about Japan and its people. We believe that by seeking out and presenting the latest Anime and by showing it both in its original language as well as with the most accurate translations we can increase interest in and understanding of the Japanese and their culture. We also hope to improve the understanding of the Japanese language through exposure to it. We of the OAE also believe that by seeking other activities such as travel, participation in cultural events and exposure to other media such as live-action programs we can further gain understanding and appreciation of the Japanese culture. We of the OAE wish to increase contact and interchange between all fans of Anime and Manga. To this end we wish to act as liaison between Anime and Japanese clubs of all kinds throughout the islands.

OAE History
Before there was the OAE, there was the Japanese Animation Society of Hawaii. From 1985 to 2005, JASH was the longest running anime club west of the Rockies. However, in 2005, JASH president Milton Streeter saw the landscape of anime and manga changing, so he felt that a changing of the guard was in order. Milton then asked club member Kell Komatsubara, of his plans to fold the club and if he would create an all new club. Kell then asked members Pam and the late Bob Verrey, and Eric Kihara, along with friend Zac Tom if they would help him create an all new anime club. So, in July of 2005, with the help of HMC academy owner Kevin Yoshida the Oahu Anime Explorer held it's first meeting. The rest as you can say, is history...

Upcoming Events

Anime Expo 2009
We are now planning another trip to Anime Expo in 2008. Stay tuned for more information, and we will also be posting a travel guide for those going to AX as well. We will be joining former JASH president Florencio Lim Jr. in his Masquerade skit for 2009. All I can say is, it will be a very "destructive" skit! LOL

Once again, Wayne and Ilene have invited us back. So along with the Pacific 501st Star Wars troop, we will be bringing the costuming mayhem back to the Neal Blaisdell Center in July. We'd like as many cosplayers to show up and partake in the fun! You would also be surprised to see what other collectibles are in this world of fun, so make sure to come on down and enjoy a friday and saturday with us!

Halloween in Waikiki version 2009
Yes, we are going back to Waikiki! This is our sixth year of Halloween insanity, and we have the Hotel and GS studios reserved for us. We are currently looking for suggestions if anyone wants to do a "theme" this year for Halloween. Let us know if anyone has any suggestions!

Japan 2010

Yes, it is never too early to start thinking of a trip to Japan. Currently, we are looking at spending time in the Osaka area.

Anime in the Limelight...

They are back! Max and the Anime in the Limelight are back on the internet radio waves! Since 1997, former J.A.S.H. members and Hawaii residents now residing in Las Vegas  were putting on this radio show for all anime  otakus in Hawaii. Recently, these guys pulled up stakes and moved to Sin City. Now, in 2008 they restarted the show and here it is! I've know Max for the longest time, and when he's back in Hawaii we always have a great time with the gang here. Hopefully, you will enjoy this internet radio show as much as we do!

HenshinTV.com

HenshinTV is a web TV program, focusing in on the japanese pop culture in the United States. This site is still in the building process, but we have seen the previews and the show looks very promising. Also, our own Yoshiki Takahashi will be doing some guest commentary on future episodes dealing with Hawaii's japanese pop culture.
